Functional Percussion Techniques for Music Therapy

Sunday May 1, 2016 from 11-2pm (MAMT Meeting 10-11)

This 3 hour CMTE is $15 for current MAMT members, $30 for non-members.

There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

This CMTE will provide resources and techniques to strengthen clinical percussion performance skills utilized in the practice of music therapy. Participants will learn 3 foundational rhythms for hand drums, basics in rhythmic theory and improvisation, and rhythmic approaches when working with groups and individuals. Basic safety and maintenance will be discussed. Both the novice and advanced musicians will benefit from the ideas presented in this workshop.

This 3 hour CMTE will allow participants to:

▪Provide music therapy experiences to achieve therapeutic goals, including addressing client attention and group cohesion and/or a feeling of group membership (I: A, 2, 5)

▪Provide music therapy experiences that are safe (II: B, 2, 7)

▪Participate in drumming experiences that further professional development (IV: A, 6; B, 3, 15)

About the Presenter:

Jason Armstrong Baker, MT-BC, is a professional drummer, music therapist and educator. Since 2001, he has been using music as a tool to engage academic learning and psychosocial development, with the focus of his work to awaken and develop individual potential. Be it in a therapeutic, artistic or educational setting, Jason seeks to provide experiences where people may discover and own their unique strengths.

Rhythm is Essential! Functional Percussion Techniques for Music Therapy is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 3 Continuing Music Therapy Education credits. The [MAR-AMTA P#065] maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.

Otherwise, you will not receive a refund. In the event the course is cancelled by the presenter or the Maryland Association for Music Therapy, prepaid registrants will be issued a full refund.
