This 5 hour CMTE is $25 students, $35 members, $45 for non-members
*There are no prerequisites to attend this course*
Every music therapist working in special education needs to know and understand the specific laws and regulations that support and fund their practice. Every family with a child that will benefit from music therapy needs accurate, up-to-date information in order to assure access to services. This session will share the latest changes in IDEA regulations and clarifications pertaining to music therapy in special education and provide resources for advocacy at the state and local levels.
This 5 hour CMTE will allow participants to:
- Utilize or develop appropriate referral protocol for population. (I. A. 1.)
- Draw conclusions and make recommendations based on analysis and synthesis of assessment findings. (I. C. 3.)
- Adhere to internal and external legal, regulatory, and reimbursement requirements. (III. A. 6)
- Work within a facility’s organizational structure, policies, standards, and procedures. (IV. B. 9)

About the Presenter:
Elizabeth K. Schwartz MA LCAT MT-BC, practices in early intervention, preschool and school aged treatment and is also an adjunct instructor at Molloy College. Beth is the author of Music, Therapy, and Early Childhood: A Developmental Approach and You and Me Makes…We: A Growing Together Songbook. She is co-founder of Raising Harmony: Music Therapy for Young Children, home of Sprouting Melodies®.
Fulfilling the Promise of IDEA: Making Music Therapy Happen in Public Education is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 5 Continuing Music Therapy Education credits. The MAR-AMTA P#065 maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria. MAR-AMTA, #CAT-0021, is approved by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an acceptable provider of continuing professional education (CPE) for licensed creative arts therapists. “Fulfilling the Promise of IDEA: Making Music Therapy Happen in Public Education” provides 0 contact hours for LCATs.
